Updating the Software

When we download a new software version, do we need to reformat the SD card, or just write over existing version?

I think I know the answer, but I am writing a book (sort-of) and want to make sure I get the right answers in the book and not my "impressions":

Do we need to do anything to the USB Memory Stick during an upgrade?
Sequencers: Vixen3 and xLights
Players: FPP and xSchedule Controllers:  Renards - SS24/SS16; E1.31 - San Devices E682 - Falcon F16, F4, F48 - J1Sys - DIYLEDExpress E1.31 Bridges.  Much more!

On my last three upgrades (new SD card images), I have done NOTHING to the USB Memory Stick. Just left it in place.
No problems.

Now, I do have a 100% backup of the data on my PC's hard drive. If you access the FP from Windows Explorer and can see the FP as a Network Device and drive, just drag (copy) the folder named Media to your desktop. That is what gets mounted by the FP during bootup.

Ya we designed the system to leave the usb stick alone.  You could take your usb stick to a friends pi, boot it up and have a exact copy of your pi setup running.  Any changes made will follow the usb stick.

With the exception of last nights "burp", I am having a blast setting up 5 FPPs and watching them bring the lights connected to them to life.

Your "designs" are showing up in a very positive way.

Thanks to all who did anything on this project.  You would not believe (or maybe you would) the different ways we are using this stuff!  Good on you.
