Falcon Neo Beta Test Boards
« on: November 21, 2014, 05:20:30 PM »
We are going to work this new design of the NEO a bit differently. Usually I just buy a few Demo boards to test with. This time because of the demand to get into the beta I am opening it up to all that want to participate.

The Neo is a 4 layer board to help reduce switching noise by having solid power and ground planes. This adds cost to the board. The estimation on quantity of 10 is 15.00 per pcb. That also includes the shipping charges from PCB manufacturer to me. When we run a coop later that should go down considerably.

I will receive the boards and build-up one and test basic functionality. If it passes the tests (previous boards have a good track record with minimal errors - knock on wood) I will completely assemble the remaining boards and bill participants for parts and ship them for beta testing. Obviously if the board does not pass tests we will need to correct and order again (another 15.00, hope it does not come to this, most likely wont).  This will help spread the cost of the development. I will be adding an item to the store for the Neo beta. If you choose to participate just purchase from the store.

Cool was just wiring up a test batch to do some validation on these boards.

Good timing.

Neil,

I have all the boards but need to order the buffers. I am waiting to order the F16v2 parts so I can include the buffers with that order. This week I will place order.

In addition to that, the code to drive the Octoscroller cape is now in the master code branch and I will be working on the UI to try to get it done in time so that users don't have to hand-configure their systems to use the Octoscrollers when they arrive.  I have merged all code back from the BBB and RGBMatrix branches and all current development is being done in the master code branch which will be the basis for the next FPP release.
