Lynx Express not responding. HELP! my show will not run.
« on: November 29, 2013, 11:08:46 AM »
Here is my layout.

I have a Falcon Bridge connected to the following chain of controllers.

All these are the same Fbridge connector and same DMX domain.

Fbridge -- > DMX Breakout -- > DMX Branch 1 --> Lynx Exp 1 -- > MR16.1 -- > Lynx Exp 2 -- > SSR4.1 -- > SSR4.2 -- > Lynx Express 3 -- > MR16.2
Fbridge -- > DMX Breakout -- > DMX Branch 2 --> SSR4.3 --> SSR4.4 --> Lynx Freestyle --> SSR4.5 --> SSR4.6 --> Lynx Express 4 --> MR16.3

Now here is what is puzzling.

The MR16s are outputting to the MR16 lamps correctly, the Lynx Freestyle is operaing all its lights ok and the SSR4s are controlling its lights correctly.

However there is no output from the Lynx Expresss at all.

I tested this setup using  xLights in test mode with either all outputs selected or the specific channels for each of the controllers. Same results.

I have eliminated the breakout box as the problem by pulling each of the DMX cables going to the different section having the Lynx expresses that were not responding and plugged it directly into the 3rd jack defined as DMX on the Falcon Bridge that I programmed for DMX output.

I verified that the Lynx express do work by connecting my Bobcat DMX tester to the same cable and controlling the lights connected to the same DMX branch.

I may have to convert back over to using USB DMX dongles for the time being until I can figure this out.

There is something definitely different with the DMX data stream from my Bobcat tester and the Falcon Bridge.

Any additional debuging or suggestion of what to look at would be appreciated.

For Halloween, I had 4 Lynx Expresses running the DMX straight from the FPD. They never missed a beat and they did not flicker/flash.
I even tried it from all 3 ports (simultaneously outputting the same DMX info on #1, #5 and #9) so I didn't have to use a breakout.

I was running the latest Firmware for the two PICs on the FPD, though.  Are you??

I thought I had updated the FPD but I can't seem to locate the files now.

I'll give it a try tomorrow and see if things improve.

For tonight I am running off an etherdongle to get the show up and going.

I did not have any LEs in my Halloween show and made the ole assumption that if I could drive my Freestyle and SSR4s with DMX that the LEs would be a snap but the ass part of assumption got to me this time. LOL.

Thanks,

If you running the LE off the DLA hub (active that I know of) - if I used DMX channels in the upper range - I lost data - If I used DMX in the 1st universe of pixelnet - never had any problems - this was coming direct from a EthD

This is a matter of the LEs not responding to a DMX data stream and therefore not outputting anything at all.

Maybe by installing the firmware upgrade it will fix the Falcon FPD DMX communications problem.

The morning update will tell all. :)

I am having the same issue. Running Pi > FPD > Active hub > DMX out > LE Nothing. Works fine with ETD. DMX = Universe 1

This is probably incompatibility with DLA firmware in active hub. For now try using DMX output on FPD.
