Expansion boards controlled by main board RJ45 outputs?
« on: October 26, 2016, 03:03:37 PM »
I recall reading this was a potential enhancement to the Falcon F16V2.  Is this supported yet?

Feature was added to beta 1.11. The software is at PixelController.com under F16V2R page.

Does this work with the V2 and V2R?

David's comment was confusing.  Does this limited the use of the onboard connectors?  Can you use this with the expansion boards (4 port differential or 16 port)?  Trying to find some release notes in the beta...

Works Great!

Does it works on a F16v2?
And how do you configure the board?

Thanks

I'm confused here - an expansion board is connected to an F16v2 by a ribbon cable.  A differential receiver is connected via ethernet jack.  Maybe we just have some words being used wrong here.  I have differential receivers connected to two F16v2rs and they work great.  You can even tell the F16 that you have an expansion board even if you don't and connect a differential receiver to get effectively 20 ports from a single F16v2.

I'm so confused on the receiver board, i have my differential expansion board connected to F16V2-R with ribbon cable, then I have Cat5 cable going from port 1-4 to the receiver board and nothing lights in test.  If I move the Cat 5 on the expansion board to try the other 3 ports I get some lights on the receiver board coming on.  What am I missing?

Have you configured the serial outputs?

Did you plug your ethernet cable in to the serial port or in to the differential expansion board?

Your expansion board is just 16 more channels added onto the physical 16 of the F16V2. The channel counts are split between the corresponding channels on the main board and the expansion.

1.  Make sure your output type is "main board and expansion" (or something like that - I'm away from my setup at this time.)
2.  Output number one of the expansion board is channels 17-20, output two is channels 21-24, etc.
3.  Make sure your power feed to the expansions is properly wired.

BTW - make sure you use cables with all 4 pairs connected.  The expansion board sender actually sends each channel down a separate pair (using RS485).

algerdes just to clarify, i'm using the differential expansion board (little 4 port one) connected to F16V2R with ribbon cable.  The out of port #1 on that little board I have ethernet cable going to receiver board.  Then off the receiver board I have 3 strings of lights, each on a different output on the receiver board.  Does all that sound correct?  If so then the string of lights connected to output 1 on the receiver board is controlled by string port 17?  Is that correct?  Is the ethernet cable a typical ethernet cable where pins 3 & 6 are green?  Sorry for so many questions?

I am trying to get the same configuration to work but had not received any clear reply yet.
