Glad to see the results have been good.

Will the reverse script (restoring from Read-Only to Read/Write) be released in the depository too?

Probably not.  If you want to switch back, just re-install the SD card.  It will be much quicker than the time spent writing a script to undo the changes and testing, etc..  We would like for the FPP v2.0 SD image to be mounted read-only by default, so this script was partially a test for that to help get a list of things we need to handle to mount the SD read-only.

Only ethernet connected no wifi.

If you set a static IP, you need to manually configure your DNS as well.  Just do what rlemery said and configure it for your router, or the free/public 8.8.8.8 google DNS.
Working now, thanks for the help Gadgetsmith, Rlemery and Materdaddy, much appreciated.

For some reason I can't find the script to make the SD card read-only in the repository. I have both an SD card and usb thumb drive on my pi and I've updated to v1.9. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

That script doesn't appear on my list. How does the pi get the list? I have a good connection to the internet.

hmmm.....
OK, let's see:  I'm running Version: v1.9-48-gdef33af [found at top of FPP screen

To be sure you are looking in the same place.....
 - FPP
 - - Control Setup
 - - - Script Repository Screen

If not v1.9-48-gdef33af click on v1.9-xxxxxxx - it will take you to the ABOUT screen
Or click on "Help" - "About"

Click on MANUAL UPDATE

Look again.

My version is the same as yours and I've looked in Content Setup/Script Repository Browser. I get a significant no. of scripts listed - just not the one I was looking for. Does it make any difference whether I'm connected to internet by wi-fi or ethernet cable? Sorry for the trouble. Apparently I'm not getting all of the scripts from the repository.

Same here. I guess I'll wait for the 2.0 version which may include this feature. Thanks for your help!

Go to the help button and click on troubleshooting commands.  See if the results give you any clues.

Going to the GitHub website using my web browser I can view the script file I need. Is it possible to copy the script to Notepad (non-formatted text) - save it as the appropriately named script file and upload it to the pi? For some reason I'm not getting all of the script files displayed when I use the script repository browser. All other functions appear to work fine and I can ping the pi from my laptop.

I checked the troubleshooting commands and the pinging of the GitHub site and the default gateway was successful.

That happened to me once (missing script).

I went to the Developer.php page (you have to manually type that into the browser address line

Changed to v1.8

Then changed back to v1.9

Then it showed up in the list.
