Starting fresh, what all do I need?
« on: January 17, 2017, 09:42:08 PM »
So I'm looking to do our first Christmas light setup next year and have decided on pixels. I've joined a few Facebook groups and have also read thru the Aussie Christmas Light Handbook. I have some of the basics down, but not everything. For the first year I plan on trying to keep it simple by outlining our roofline. It's just under 150 feet and nothing too involved.

Here's what I plan on getting so far.

1x Means Well 350w 12v PSU
1x RaspberryPi 3
1x PiHat/PiCap
C9 Faceted pixel bulbs from Ray Wu

What other basics should I look into getting for a first timer, such as connectors/wires/etc.? Also, I haven't determine spacing yet for the C9's, but from reading the Aussie handbook, a 350w PSU should handle at least 450 pixels, correct?
People's misconceptions on adjustable suspensions usually come from a lack of knowledge.

The 350W supply should do a little over 500 12V pixels at full load. Distance from 1 end to the other is going to be your biggest issue as you need to control voltage drop. Some nice heavy figure 8 cable for power injection is a must for long distances. Some pigtails for joining things together and maybe 1 of the little $3 2811 pixel testers would come in handy too,
