flickering problems...
« on: February 22, 2017, 10:14:57 PM »
Hi,
Had some problem with my setup. Currently testing and might need some help.
I've found some work around but would like to know what is happening.

Set up:
-F16V2
-20 x 1m ws2812 12v bought from raywu (buck converters directly on the strips)
-on 5 output (XLR4 pig tails, only 3 pins used)
- each group of 4 is 10 feet from controller.
-2 powersupplies.
PSU 1 = (V1 on first set of screws)(output 1+2 on second set of screws) (output 3+4 on third set of screws)
PSU 2= (V2 on first set of screws)(output 5+6 on second set of screws) (output 7+8 on third set of screws)

Problem:

Im getting some flickering on line 4 and 5.To solve problem on line 5, I tried splitting the group into 2 using next output (6). It stopped flickering on line 5, but line 4 went insane. However, by using instead either output 7 or 8 all flickering on the setup would stop. To solve problem on line 4, something has to be plugued in line 1... Now that its working, im swapping some lines and the flickering would start again.Power injection at the end of lines didnt change a single thing. ( Im on different psu, but same power)

-I think It is not data as i get the same problem in test mode.

Is there something I am not getting? I would need some help understanding why it is happening. I'll do my best to provide more informations if needed.

Thanks!

I would start with double checking all solder joints on the board.  This really sounds like it might be a cold joint somewhere... possibly on a ground.  It doesn't sound like a data quality issue due to transmission length given the 4-10ft run.

You might also try bumping the voltage DOWN just a bit.  There have been some reports of strings reacting poorly to voltage right at, or slightly above the rated voltage., so you might try 4.9 instead of 5.0 or 11.8-11.9 instead of 12.0, etc.

If those don't solve it, you might try getting this thread moved to the F16V2 section, or re-post there.  I'm sure you'll get a lot more responses.

Could it be a ground on one of my xlr pig tail? Or it as to be on the board itself?

The voltage is already dropped to 11,8.

Thank you for your replie!

Take a string that is working and try it in all 16 ports. What are the results.
