WANTED: Display Random Image script
« on: May 12, 2017, 07:22:38 PM »
I will be utilizing still images in my show this year, but I was wondering if someone had a "display RANDOM image script"?

Since all images remain in the uploads directory, it could be pretty simple to write (maybe?)

What language are the FPP scripts written in?

While we are on the subject, I noticed the Display Static Image script remains on the screen forever, even if you play a video, after the video ends it goes back to the last displayed image.

Is there a script to close (turn off) the image and go back to nothing?

are you going to want the images "all the time" or are they going to be "filler" in between other things like videos playing?

The script i am inquiring about is for the monitor (still images only)

On the monitor, all images all the time, yes...

The projector, however, will be doing video

You can use the 'fbi' utility to display images in a random order.  fbi is installed on the FPP SD image, so you should be able to test from the command line and make a script to do what you want.

Here's a link to some more info including the command line option for randomizing image display.    http://www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2017/02/how-to-display-images-on-raspbian-command-line-with-fbi/
