Should be activated by default.

Should be activated by default.
Nothing to select in the settings.

I have more than 6 Pi3s and I have never activated audio out, but every one of the pis that I hooked to speakers had audio.  For my show last year I used a Pi B+ only because I had read many posts that indicated it had better audio than the 3.  But I never tried to compare them.  I even have a portable P10 matrix setup that runs off a Pi matrix adapter on a Pi3. It is powered by a cell phone battery charger.  I have speakers hooked up that come off the Pi3 audio jack and use power from the cell phone charger and it works fine.

Did you have a hat setup on the pi?  If so it disables onboard audio

Darn, my short, or is it aged, memory forgot that I have a USB audio for the Pi3 I use with my matrix adapter.  I built that after the Expo last year.

But I do hook up a speaker to the audio jack everytime I build a new Pi image so that I can hear the Ip addr that comes over the speakers as it finishes booting up.
