F4v3 Serial (Pixelnet)
« on: June 12, 2017, 02:29:58 PM »
The serial out option is it for 1 universe of pixelnet (4096) or 4 universes (16384)?

I believe its 1 pixelnet universe per serial output, but you can carry 4 pixelnet universes on a single cat-5 cable using all 4 serial output on the DMX1 RJ45 jack.
Vixen and xLights for sequencing / FPP for scheduling and playing / Falcon controllers for pixels / DIY controllers for everything else

It does appear to be only a single pixelnet universe, well at least I think so since I never move the jumpers on the hub using only the first pair.  Hopefully something can help explain what I am seeing is correct.  I've tested all parts to confirm each is working and it is.  One thing to note I can not program the uSC through the F4v3 I have to use my Etherdongle to do the programing.

I first test doing the following with an Etherdongle replacing the F4v3 (Etherdongle --> Lynx Smart String Hub --> uSC)
  • Program uSC for channel 1 - Test channels 1-150 lights blink
  • Program uSC for channel 4097 (move jumpers on hub to jumper 2) - Test channels 4097 - 4246 lights blink
For whatever reason I can't do the other 2 universes that the Etherdongle has but the first two should at least show if it can/can't do multiple universes.

So I then bring the F4v3 into the mix taking the Etherdongle out (F4v3 ---> Lynx Smart String Hub ---> uSC)
  • Program uSC for channel 1 - Test channels 1-150 lights blink
  • Program uSC for channel 4097 (move jumpers on hub to jumper 2) - Test channels 4097 - 4246 lights do not blink
  • Program uSC for channel 4097 (move jumpers on hub to jumper 1) - Test channels 4097 - 4246 lights blink

Another thing to note I could not get the test above to work on absolute addressing, only on universe/channel.  I tried changing the start channel on the serial to 4097 but it would never work but does with universe 9/1 combo

The F4V3 only has one serial port. So only can do one Pixelnet universe not 4.

Ok that confirms what I was seeing then.  Bummer was hoping to maybe get two so I could use it in place of an etherdongle.  I know I can with a f16, just don't want to covert my usc/sscs over just yet (more work I don't have time for)

Me to.  I was going to move my front porch to an F16v2 last year but when I started to look at making 15 new cat 5 wires on top of everything else I had to do, that active hub, with a Pi in remote mode, looked better and better.  Still debating about this year, but the hub and uSCs/SSCs still work good.

Usc/ssc on my house/eves so they hang under protected...I would just need to switch from cat 5 end to 3 pin and I'm not wanting to do the soldering right now.  Same 15 cables.
