Curious about what your "singing Christmas tree" would be.

Is it a tree shaped cone and you want to do colors and bands and patterns that are synchronized with music?

or do you want to put a face with moving eyes and mouth?

The first isn't very difficult, particularly using a Pi and xLights software.

The second (actual "face") is harder and not a great "first year" project.

(personal opinion)

To do "moving mouth and eyes" you should join and read the xlights forum.

xLights has many enhancements specifically for phonemic analysis of words to make your lights match the words.

The Falcon forum would be good for powering the pixels. xLights forum for controlling them.
