Pi3 with RasClock v4.0 - Won't get DHCP address
« on: October 15, 2017, 03:22:39 PM »
FPP v1.9 on Pi3b using RasClock v4.0 real time clock (from afterthought software).  Have selected 'rasclock' in the config/set time area.

Without the rasclock physically installed on the Pi header, the unit will boot fine and retrieve a DHCP assigned ip address.

With the rasclock installed on the pi header, the unit will not get a dhcp address, but instead after about 5 'waiting for dhcp' messages, it times out and defaults to 0.10 fixed address.

I've repeated this several times to verify, each time when the RTC is installed, the unit will not work with dhcp.

The same issue also occurs with v1.8.

Using a DS1307 RTC this issue does not occur with v1.8, but tested with v1.9 and finding that it prevents DHCP also.

I'm also finding that I can not 'disable' NTP and set a completely different time/date in the RTC (enter the different time/date, click submit, then shutdown and restart) and have that 'wrong' time/date reasserted upon startup- just trying to verify that the hardware is indeed reading the info from the RTC and not NTP...

When you refer to v1.8 and v1.9, are you using the same v1.8 SD image and just not upgrading to v1.9 when prompted or are you using the v1.9 beta image?

I am using the v1.8 image and downloading the latest upgrade within v1.8 (baed964), but not upgrading to v1.9.

The rasclock issue is probably a kernel module issue.  The module might not have been included in the v1.8 SD image.  You could try using the v1.5 SD image and updating from v1.5 to v1.6 to v1.7 to v1.8.

I'm not sure why you are having issues with the DS1307 in v1.9, I haven't seen any other threads about issues and don't know of anything that would cause the RTC to conflict with DHCP.

Can you grab the logs zip off the Pi and post it here?
