F16V3 and wifi support?
« on: December 19, 2017, 06:35:20 PM »
I see that there is software to update the firmware on the F16V3, but I didn't find any firmware downloads on the store website.

Is the built in wifi module still not supported in the firmware?

(Just got my tree up and running test patterns on it, would prefer to not have to make a 100' ethernet cable if I don't have to...)

Thanks,
Jay

There has not been an official update. The beta remote mode firmware is being tested. The Wifi firmware will not allow E131 data to be transmitted wirelessly. Only ability to store data on card.

If the Falcon will playback the data from the card on it's own, that would be enough for me. (I only have one megatree it is controlling, and no need to sync it with anything else.) I'm willing to test whatever you have if it is an open beta.

Any target date for firmware release to enable the player, audio, wi-fi, etc?

In April I will be testing wifi and player mode. If you want to help test I can send the small audio board for a nominal fee. $10.00 + shipping

So the new update will allow the F16 to store sequence data and act like a slave to the master PI?

Yes, but that is really the extent of it.  I think the big issue will be that you have to remove the uSD and put it in a computer to do any adding/updating of fseq files.  There is not enough horsepower available to be a full fledged wifi solution, if I have remembered the gist of Davids prior comments.

It might be an interesting project for something like a pocket-beagle add-on.

David - will the audio board be required if you plan to run the F16v3 as a remote?

Oh, and will the new firmware also work with the F4v3?

last july 2017 i ran (7) Falcon F16 v3's as FPP slaves. The boards were all connected via wifi. I ran the show at 20fps.

worked great, eliminated 7 raspberry pis running as slaves. still needed 1 raspberry pi as the master

audio is a new feature  I have not tried out yet
