Playlist stalling.
« on: December 30, 2017, 12:36:26 PM »
Hi,
My issue is that I have 6 buttons linked to 6 different playlists. I have a scheduled playlist playing all day and when a button is pressed the new playlist will play and when finished will start the scheduled playlist again. However this only works sometimes. Most of the time the second playlist will run but only play the first song and then stall. FPPD is still running though. I was on 1.9 but have been using 1.10 for a week with the same problem. Below are a script and playlist.
Thanks very much for any help.
-------------------------------------------------------------
# Edit this line to hold the playlist name in quotes
PLAYLISTNAME="9_Kids2"

# If you want to start on a specfic numbered entry in the playlist
# then put the entry number inside the quotes on the line below
STARTITEM=""

fpp -d
fpp -P "${PLAYLISTNAME}" ${STARTITEM}

I'm wondering if the lack of replies is because I've either asked a stupid question or not provided enough info ! Lol.
The 6 buttons always trigger the 6 playlists without fail. On the odd occasion that the playlist completes, the scheduled playlist then restarts as I had hoped.
However the triggered playlist rarely completes and stalls after playing the first song in the playlist. Fppd is still running however.
If I press another button the corresponding playlist will run, but again it will usually stall after playing the first song.
Any thoughts please?
Thank you. Taz.

Hello all,
Today with my minimal scripting knowledge I decided to move most of the playlists into a script. All 6 buttons now call the same script and mostly works.
However. . . it still stalls after playing the first song !!  :(

Below are the new playlist and script.

Any thoughts? P L E A S E.
Cheers Taz.

Does the playlist freeze if you play it manually?  Have you tried playing it without the mp3 files to see if the fseq plays fine by itself?

Chris, yes it freezes even if I play it manually. I re-did the playlist with the 3 sequences only and then the 3 sequences with music. It works flawlessly without the music and then freezes at the music.
Your suggestions seem like wonderful progress but I still haven't a clue what this then means ?!
Thanks for your help so far.
Taz.

Are you saying the audio works sometimes, but not other times?

Chris, below is the playlist I am using for testing.
If I play it manually it will play but stall at line 15.
However, if I put this exact same playlist in a schedule it will play the lot !!

I hope this hasn't made things more confusing.
Thank you.

That makes it sound like some external influence or a random issue with the SD or power.

Can you reproduce the issue multiple times in a row and have it always stop in the same spot?  Does it stop at the beginning of the sequence or in the middle somewhere?  If you rearrange the entries, does it stop at the same song even in the new playlist position?

Thanks very much.

The story so far. . .
I have a RPi 3 with a class 10 SanDisk Ultra 16gb uSD.
Formatted the SD card and fresh install of fpp 1.8 upgraded to 1.9 and then to 1.10.
All media and sequences stored on the uSD.
I have re-rendered all sequences.
I have changed the psu out.

On the events page I have been manually triggering an event to play a playlist. Occasionally the whole playlist will play and then revert back to the scheduled playlist. However most of the time it still stalls. I have re-ordered the songs in the playlist but it still freezes after playing the first music sequence (line 14)

Any other thoughts?
Thanks so much. Taz.

What is with lines 12, 12, 13?  You have a sequence listed but no music.

Have you tried just playing the playlist from the status screen or from a schedule?

Hi Jim,
CaptainMurdoch suggested the sequences without music presumably to rule out audio problems or a corrupt file.
Playing the playlist from the status screen has the same affect of stalling at the same point.
Oddly, playing the playlist from a schedule seems to work without a problem.

I am thoroughly befuddled !  :)

Are you using a PiCap or similar and an external USB sound card?  If so, maybe there is an issue with the sound card and the mp3 player is crashing but not dying.

can you see if playing a 'media only' playlist entry also causes the freeze?  I assume it would, but that will eliminate some of the code that handles the sequence ending before the media.
