ColorLight P10 Matrix Setup Guide
« on: April 14, 2018, 11:10:34 PM »
First off, I want to thank everyone for all of the hard work you have put into getting the ColorLight working with FPP, ...especially you Capitan Murdoch!, and for all of the valuable information everyone provided for configuring the ColorLight receiver card for P10 and P5 panels in LEDVision.

Even with the abundance of information out there, I had a difficult time figuring it out. I eventually succeeded, so, in the hopes that it might benefit someone else in the future, I documented the process, (and so that in a week from now when I forget everything, I will have something to refer to :o.) Anyway, I hope this helps someone. Please let me know if you find any blatant errors, or if I missed something crucial.

Cheers!

Been waiting for something just like this, so many thanks.  Will work my way down it and let you know if I stumble on something!

Please do. I am sure there are other things that might need to be configured other than those I documented. That was just what worked for me. If you come up with some other things, I will add them to the document.

What panels are you using?

Plain ole p10 16x32 in a vertical orientation for now.  Thinking I would rather have P5 outdoor type, but don't think I will be spending the money for them anytime soon.

Did you see the post where they coated front and back of their "indoor" P10 panels and made them waterproof?  Facebook post, I think. Video showed them running underwater in a fish tank.

That was mine actually, the spray worked great for the back and I used clear 3M window covers for the front, tested for a few days in bad weather and its holding up so far.

Brian, could you list the type of spray you used on the panel and details about # of coats and drying time?

Link to the 3M window covers?  This could be useful to many users here who didn't see or don't follow FB.

absolutely

here is the 3M I used, you can get them smaller, I have a 54 panel display so I needed a larger size and make sure you use the "outdoor" one being it uses stronger double stick tape - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AXXCY8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This was the spray I used that seemed to be the go to product when I researched water proof spraying - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009H1AMG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I did one coating but sprayed a lot on it and let it sit for like an hour before I put it in water. Its messy and leaves a gooey film on the back to protect it so it is a little messy if you needed to swap out a panel, In the end I would up getting a clear show curtain and mounting it over the back of my matrix to really protect it from rain

I saw your original post and I loved the idea.  I want to try and keep the weight down as much as possible, and this will help a lot. Thanks for sharing!

I shot a few videos of it in and outside my house and a quick one of the back before I cleaned it up and covered it all

That is about the size I am building. How much does it weigh?

exactly 50 pounds so not too bad, I put a support on the back so it will rest on my window ledge and then I plane on pulling ratchet ties through the window to pull it tight against the house to hold it up

Very nice job on the instructions. I muddled through the setup on my own early this year but learned some additional features from your guide. Thanks much!
