Raspberry Pi no activity light
« on: April 15, 2018, 05:17:34 PM »
I am trying to put FPP 1.8 on my raspberry pi 3 B. I have followed the instructions on the post above for this, but Im not having any luck.

When I power on the RB I get a single flash of the green light then nothing else and no display. Ive tried two SD cards and have left it sitting for 30+ minutes.

When I look at the SD cards after trying they all have 3 new partitions and one is called recovery. The other two are unnamed.

I am formatting with SD for matter and using the overwrite format, downloaded the install files from the link in the instruction post.

Anyone have any ideas? If not I will return the raspberry tomorrow and try with a new one.

You should forget 1.8 and move to the latest beta image which at this point seems pretty stable to me.

I'm curious what the solution was to this? I have a B+ and finally figured out that the B+ won't boot on the older posted 1.8 software so I was able to download NOOBS from the Raspberry website directly and that proved the Pi works but I feel like I have tried every combo to get FPP to boot with no luck.

So with the NOOBS lite software I copied the FPP file from the 1.8 OS file to the new OS and it says it was successful installing but when it reboots I get nothing, no signal. Do I need to run Raspbian like a desktop and then find FPP?

I assume you mean the new Model 3 B+ and not the old Model 1 B+     The 3B+ is very new and you'll need to run the new V2.x FPP code to support this new model.
The V2.x install procedure is much simpler and faster than 1.x.  NOOBS is not required.   More info here...

xLights and Vixen3 for sequencing / FPP for scheduling and playing / Falcon controllers for pixels / homemade controllers for everything else

Thanks for the reply pixelpuppy. I did and the link you posted is what I just figured out. It's been a long journey to get this far starting from Youtube. Ha! My Pi hat comes today so wish me luck! Thanks again

I had the same experience. Tried 1.8 over a dozen times. First with the B+ and after reading the forums a plain B. Could never get it to work. 2.0 works like a charm though.
