Manual or documentation location
« on: June 10, 2018, 11:00:03 AM »
is there an official manual or documentation for the Pic-a-Pix anywhere?  I havent found anything here, on the wiki, or on the store (coming soon!).

There is a video John Storms made.  It has a link from the product page of the PiCap.
To see it direct, go to:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS2OaGXIoj4

Ive seen the video. But Im still looking for documentation of some sort, even just a spec sheet. For example, what chips are actually supported?

Thats a manual for FPP. Im looking for documentation on the PiCap.
The PiCap has no on-board intelligence.  It's all controlled by FPP.
xLights and Vixen3 for sequencing / FPP for scheduling and playing / Falcon controllers for pixels / DIY controllers for everything else

I asked in another thread and above in this thread -- what kind of pixels does the PiCap support?  UCS2903?

I'm still learning all this, but I thought that the final data sent out to the pixels would come from the FW on the PiCap, not the SW running on the computer (FPP).

Im looking for documentation on the PiCap.

Is there a particular function?

The Falcon PiCap will output two strings of WS2811 type pixels on the green, 3-wire connectors

From its RJ-45 jack, the Falcon PiCap will output DMX-Pro, DMX-Open, Generic Serial, Pixelnet Lynx, Pixelnet Open, Renard
That RJ-45 jack has jumpers to support DMX, LOR and Renard output connections (1&2, 4&5 and 5&4, respectively)

It will support a RASClock if you have the battery installed
It will power the Pi from 12v or 5v (jumper dependent)
It will run "power independent" from the Pi (remove a jumper)

Thanks.

My problem is that I am so new to this I just can't tell what I need or what will work.  There does not seem to be any central repository that is up to date.  The wiki does not even list the PiCap.
