Max Distance of data cable between two CTB16PCg3
« on: August 24, 2018, 01:13:43 PM »
I have a tall tower tree, and want to place a controller near the star. What is the maximum distance you have tried to run a RJ45 cable between two LOR CTB16PCg3 controllers, and have little to no errors?  I am looking at 150-170 feet.  What are your thoughts.

The spec for RS-485 (the electrical standard used by LOR network and DMX) is 4,000 feet.  Your tree is no where near tall enough to be a problem!
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.

I did 4 controllers that were on 4 corners of my house that were separated by about 125 feet each.   The first and 4th controller were running lights next to each other and connected by about 300' so, you should be fine.
