Title: My understanding
Post by: kjimkoski on January 12, 2018, 07:52:02 AM
I just want to make sure I got things in order before I buy products and get the ball rolling. I have a F16V3 and want to have an arch display about 100 feet from my home. To do so I need to buy a differentinal  expansion board hook it to the V3 run Cat5 to a box with a  differentail receiver board and that will be able to run an arch setup correct? Or am I all wrong?

Yup, you got it.  I'll be doing the same next year for snowflakes.

If you do not need more than 4 outputs in remote you can just run a single differential receiver straight off the F16v2 or 3.  I've done that for two seasons.  The first time saved me when a different controller failed and this last season I added too many extra strands when I expanded a megatree in my side yard and ran out of ports.  Plugging in the differential receiver straight into the F16v3 gave me 4 more ports to use.  No expansion boards used anywhere.

Keep in mind that if you do just use a single receiver running off a serial port, your 4 receiver ports will reflect your serial port use.  For example, I'll be running 1 serial port for DMX to my AC controllers so if I add a diff. receiver without an expansion board, I'll only be able to use 3 of it's 4 pixel ports.
