BBB WiFi startup issues (solved)
« on: November 30, 2018, 08:15:25 AM »
After updating to FPP 2.5 on my BBBs I am now experiencing an issue with the WiFi adapters (edimax branded).  When I first boot the BBB, the WiFi does not come up.  You can see it trying, as the adapter flashes it's blue LED.  If I remove the adapter and reinsert it, it comes right up and everything works fine for a couple of days.  After some period of time, I loose network connectivity to the BBB and to restore it, I have to pull the adapter and plug it back in.  This is not much of an issue, with the exception of having to pull out the ladder every time I need to restore my matrix panel's connectivity.

What logs and what should I be looking for to troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I see this occasionally too but only on my Pocket Beagles.  I also have BBB's and they haven't done it.  You could try changing the WiFi Drivers between External and Linux Kernel to see if either one works better for you.    Sometimes a power off/on resets mine.  Might save you from pulling the ladder out  ;)

I run all my BBB (BLACK) Edimax dongles on a short extension cable. Gets it away from the HDMI output.

THAT is a good idea. I'll have to get some from Amazon.

I think I may have resolved my issue.  I have rebooted the BBB several times and it came right up.  It has been running for 3 nights in a row without any connectivity issues.  The only thing I changed was from using "external" drivers to using the "Linux Kernel" drivers under the Network configuration.  I hope this will help others.
