Is there a pixel effect that resembles a "dumb" colored string?
« on: December 04, 2018, 10:30:24 PM »
Hello,

I have looked through all the effects and can't seem to find what I am looking for. I'm hoping it is just a matter of adjusting some settings on an existing effect that I don't quite understand yet.  Is there a effect that resembles a standard strand of colored lights?  The palette colors would just alternate down the string, no motion.

Thanks,

Matt

The Single Strand effects has a "Skips" setting where it will do the alternating thing you describe.  If you set the movement to 0, it would just be static.

I was playing with single strand because I figured that's where my desired effect must be but I could only get it to have the entire strand a single color.  I'll try more tweaking tonight.  I use the fire effect with the hue shifted to red and "per node" on for a nightlight effect.

I don't have a show synced to music yet. Just around 1000 pixels in a couple trees that fade between some effects. Thought it would be neat to have it look like a standard string in between effects like a "stealth mode" and surprise people by animating.  Brand new to xLights/FPP this year. Last year I just programmed the strings using the Neopixelbus library and an Arduino.

I found my problem was that I was trying to apply the effect to a whole "tree" instead of just a strand of the tree (the tree is made up of a single strand coiled around it).  So much to learn!  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
