Looking for a laptop
« on: December 07, 2018, 09:33:44 PM »
What are suggestions on looking for a decent laptop for sequencing lights. I usually only use it for sequencing 4mo out of the year. Should I be looking at processing speed or amount of ram installed? Or both. I use an external 1tb hard drive for all xmas light files and downloads so hdd space isnt really important. Ive upgraded my laptop twice now with components to keep it going through the years and its time for an upgrade. Thank you guys.

I use a $300.00 Lenovo with an external monitor so i can have tools on one monitor and the sequence on the other. It's just an Intel i3. 8gb ram. Windows 10. It accesses and can set up my Pi and Falcons with no issues. Works great. I could have bought a more powerful laptop but since all I use it for is Christmas seems like anymore would have been overkill. Inexpensive and effective for my use.

I just opened the activity monitor on my Mac and opened and rendered a sequence.  My biggest sequence is using 3.7 GB RAM and 50% of my CPU.  This is on a 2.4GHz i5 processor.
