New Enclosures! What do ya think?
« on: January 19, 2019, 10:52:27 AM »
Just finishing up next years controllers. My plan is to run all 5V pixels. First 50 pixels will be powered via the differential receiver box (up to 200 pixels- 50x4channels). Additional 100 Pixels (50 upstream and 50 downstream) will be powered via separate power supply ports.See attached
  • F48
  • Differential receiver (includes a 22A power supply)
  • 6 port (10 amp/port) power supply (60 amp power supply)
  • 1 port (8 amp/port) power supply - used for long distance along eave of house
  • 1 port (8 am) power supply - cost reduced.
All comments would be appreciated.  Working to get this operational by Thanksgiving 2019.

For differential receiver I used :
MTM 30 Caliber Ammo Can
For the F48 I used
MTM ACR4-18 Ammo Crate Utility Box

Both from Amazon, looks like prices have gone up since i bought them however.......

What is the "gland" or coupler for your Cat5/6 cable on the Reciever box?

Thank you for the information.
Another question.  It appears the exterior Cat5 jack is left to the elements.  Is this correct?  My exposed jacks always corroded in the past.

The gland has a screw on cap for when it is not being used for protection.  Doesnt look extremely protected when plugged in however.  It will keep moisture from leaking into the box.

Isn't there a matching screw on that the male RJ45 (on the cable) uses?

No.  The LAN gland just has a female RJ45 on both sides.  The cable is just a standard 12 in, premade, male on both sides, Cat 6 LAN cable

Sorry, I meant isn't there a matching screw on connector (collar) for adding the cable on the exterior side?

not the ones I bought.  It does not come with a screw on cable for the exterior side.  Just two females one on the inside and one on the outside.  Standard premade LAN cables for both sides................ those are nice though if you can get them in 20-50 foot lengths .

Do you have to make that matching screwon cable yourself or does it somehow slide over a premade one?  I have tried making my own LAN cables with very little success.

For the ones that I've used we put the cable through the unit, then crimped on the RJ45.  You then seat the RJ45 in the cover and tighten down the weather seal on the cable.  We then took the weather cover off of the panel unit, inserted the cable and screwed them down.

One odd thing was the weather connector holds the clip in a "flat" position since it is not needed to hold the RJ45 in place (the screw on part holds it in tight.)
