have new picap setup lights not working
« on: January 21, 2019, 01:43:32 PM »
I have my new picap setup.  I have 2 strands of strings. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M7MR44P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have my 12v power going into the Picap.  I have the green LED lit on the picap.

In FPP I have the output set up as attached.

When I click on enable display testing.  I get nothing out of the lights.  Please help me check where to look for my problems.  I think I have all connections set correctly.

Do you have the lights connected in the proper direction, data-wise?

I assume so.  It looks as the lines are going into the top section with the label.  Can I reverse them and try?  Any harm to lights if they are backwards?

Lines into the top section?  I dont know what that means.

These LEDs are directionalone end of the strand is start (data in) and the other is end (data out)

I am trying to find what the data flow is.  I currently have the wires from the picap going into the top side of the chip with the labels 12V, D, GND.  then the wires come out of the chip and go onto the rest of the pixels.  Is there a better way to find the data flow?

Look for a directional arrow (of the data), or DI (data in) and DO (data out)

ok yea.  I have the flow going into the V, DI, GND.   So I think I have the data flow the right way.  Still nothing when I click enable testing.

Have you verified 12v?  Both out of the Pi, and at the opposite ends of the LEDs?

Should the 12v be active just in the port all the time  or just when the enable testing is clicked.  I get 12V going into the Picap.  However if I just test on the ports I get nothing from the V and G.

V and G should always be active

Sounds like power isnt reaching the port.

I believe there are 12v and 5v jumpers on some versions of the picaps. Check that

How are you powering everything?  Through the Pi? Or through the PiCap?

I am powering both.
I have the pi powered with its adapter.
I have the picap powered with a 12v external power supply.  I checked and its getting 12v into the picap.

I have all the jumpers attached for the picap so that should be for 12v.

If youre not getting power out of the ports, then the LEDs arent going to get power.

Youll need to track down that problem.  Fuse?

Why arent you powering your Pi through the PiCap?  Might have issues if youre trying two supply power to the Pi and Cap separately, if its not configured properly

ok it was a jumper issue.  I am now getting 12v on both ports.  I am also get 12 at the end of the string.  however still get nothing when I click enable testing.
