MQTT and 2.6 - cant get it to work
« on: February 10, 2019, 04:26:09 PM »
I am having issues getting MQTT working in FPP 2.6. I have the MQTT setup as:
MQTT Broker Host: 10.0.0.215 (The IP of my pi that works fine with other MQTT switches like my Sonoff's)
MQTT Broker Port: 1883
MQTT Prefix: garden
MQTT Username and MQTT Password are confirmed as correct from the other MQTT items on the network.

From Home Assistant I am sending the following test via mqtt.publish
{
"topic": "garden/falcon/player/10.0.0.215/playlist/name/set",
"payload": "Off_Season"
}

Off_Season is a current playlist, but I have tried another one, again with no luck

In the logs of FPP I can see the following, so it appears to have received the data fine, but not acted on it:

2019-02-11 09:22:26 (8107) command.c:547:s - (48 0 Success) 2,0,0,Off_Season,Monday @ 20:30:00 - (Everyday) 2019-02-11 09:22:26 (8109) mqtt.cpp:230:Received Mosquitto message: 'Off_Season' on topic 'garden/falcon/player/10.0.0.215/playlist/name/set'
2019-02-11 09:22:27 (8107) command.c:130:CMD: s
2019-02-11 09:22:27 (8107) command.c:547:s - (48 0 Success) 2,0,0,Off_Season,Monday @ 20:30:00 - (Everyday)
2019-02-11 09:22:28 (8107) command.c:130:CMD: s
2019-02-11 09:22:28 (8107) command.c:547:s - (48 0 Success) 2,0,0,Off_Season,Monday @ 20:30:00 - (Everyday)

I have even tried sending the name/set and the repeat/set as shown below and it still does nothing.

2019-02-11 10:20:52 (8109) mqtt.cpp:230:Received Mosquitto message: 'Off_Season' on topic 'garden/falcon/player/10.0.0.215/playlist/name/set'
2019-02-11 10:20:57 (8107) command.c:130:CMD: s
2019-02-11 10:20:57 (8107) command.c:547:s - (48 0 Success) 2,0,0,Off_Season,Monday @ 20:30:00 - (Everyday)
2019-02-11 10:20:58 (8109) mqtt.cpp:230:Received Mosquitto message: '1' on topic 'garden/falcon/player/10.0.0.215/playlist/repeat/set'
2019-02-11 10:20:58 (8107) command.c:130:CMD: s

Any hints would be appreciated, as this is becoming really frustrating

Is 10.0.0.215 the hostname of the Pi you are trying to run a playlist on?

You should be sending the Pi's hostname in that section of the topic.

garden/falcon/player/MasterGardenPiHostname/playlist/name/set

If you don't have a hostname set on the Pi, the hostname should be 'FPP'.

Ahh no I was adding the mqtt host name. I changed it to the FPP name and it worked fine, thanks. Now to get HA to read it's status in a usable way.

The Pi's hostname is used so that you can send messages to a single FPP instance if you have multiple instances on the network.
