Multiple receiver ports #3 are dead?!
« on: March 05, 2019, 04:16:39 PM »
I was trying to do a simple color wash from the F48 to a receiver board and determined port 3 on all five of my receiver boards does not work.  Ports 1,2 & 4 work fine.  It does not matter which port I plug into on the F48.  I realize the chances are slim all five are defective right out of the bag.  What could be the culprit?

Bad cable?  Did you try a different cable?

I agree with the Cap'n ... the cable is the most likely culprit based on those symptoms.

Cat5/6 cable is four-twisted-pairs.   Pair 1 is used for Port 1, Pair 2 for Port 2, etc.    Sounds like Pair 3 is bad in your cable

You guys nailed it.  I was unaware each pair was being used for transmit and receive.  I thought it was only the green and orange.  Thanks a bunch.

Thank for this thread.  Yes you nailed the problem.  Was having trouble figuring  it out because of several bad cables.  I changed everything out but the controller.  Took out one bad cable and replaced it with another bad cable.  Where did anyone find how the diff boards worked. Is it in a manual somewhere?

As a bit of info there is some cat 5 cords that I believe is a cross over cord. That means that one pair is switched for a special reason.  Charlie J.

Get yourself an inexpensive cable tester off Amazon. It saves loads of time when diagnosing issues.
