Rookie F4 Setup Question
« on: March 12, 2019, 05:42:44 PM »
I have been using the F16's & now I want to add a F4 to one of my existing F16's. I know I need to change the F16 so it reflects  one expansion board & just use the next 4 outputs. My question is this;
I have my F16 set to use universes (outputs) #56-71 (IP address 192.168.1.106), now when I add the F4 it will use universes (outputs)
96-99. As long as I put the correct IP address on the F4 setup in xLights (192.168.1.106) the universes being out of sequence will not be a problem. Correct?
Thanks for the help.
 Mike

The F4V3 cant used as an expansion board. Its a separate controller that will need a different IP address than the F16v3.

Are you talking about an actual F4, or a 4 port remote?  The F4 is a stand alone controller, same as the F16.

Sequencers: Vixen3 and xLights
Players: FPP and xSchedule Controllers:  Renards - SS24/SS16; E1.31 - San Devices E682 - Falcon F16, F4, F48 - J1Sys - DIYLEDExpress E1.31 Bridges.  Much more!

DMX Port 1 on your F16 has all 4 serial feeds in it. This is intended to connect to a differential receiver board (and other things).  The receiver board uses 4 pairs when talking to any remote sender equipped board.
The remote receiver does NOT have its own processing power, therefore it does not have a need for its own IP address.

See page 16 of the F16 user manual.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S67ZVLgQRYsdqPhgfPkQucnFXvu1FmQAME9qnK5RixU/ for better information.

I understand the DMX output on the F16 but how do I set the universes on the 4 outputs on the differential receiver board?

Like algerdes stated, the differential receivers do not have any processing power so everything is handled by the F16. Think of the Differential Receiver as a port extension of the F16 and not a controller. You set up  whatever Universes that the F16 and Receivers are going to use in the F16. In the String ports is where you tell the F16 where to send the data, to include the receivers.
If to err is human, I am more human than most people.

Let's see if I am heading in the right direction to set this up.
1. I have gone to the controller & then the serial ports & changed 1 to Pixelnet (first picture)
2. What do I use in xLights add E1.31?
3. How do I know which port to use?
Thanks Mike

Did you change this to Pixelnet or Pixel Data? Looks like Pixel Data? Pixel Data is correct.

2. What do I use in xLights add E1.31?
As long as you have your universes set up completely in the Setup Tab (avoid Multicast!) and your start Channel (use model chaining to make your life easier) and port connection set up in your layout tab, then you can right click on the controller in the Setup tab in xlights and upload to controller (2 times, once for E1.31 Input definition and then Output

3. How do I know which port to use?
Use whatever port you want to use! Without a differential expansion board, the Falcon will take the data that was going to the port selected in the drop down and send that data to your receiver. There are other options if you look in the manual.

Been awhile since I did this so best i can recall (and done for F16V2 so may have changed for V3), first go to the ports page and add an expansion card so that you have more ports to assign.  Otherwise you will just have existing ports to use. Then change all 4 serial ports to pixel data if you want to use all 4 ports on differential board, pick previously unused pixel ports.  Connect diff board to first  RJ45 port
