Playlist omxplayer and Pi 3
« on: June 14, 2019, 04:00:59 PM »
I ran the same software on the Pi 3 and the Pi 2 (version: v2.7.1-g14cfa963) .  The Pi3 produces errors with omxplayer and the playlist would freeze after 1-3 hours of playing.  I've been running the same software with the pi 2 for over 5 and 1/2 hours with no errors or playlist freezes.

On the Pi 2 I re-ran the playlist and it failed  at 3 hours and 45 mins...not long enough for the complete show.

I'm not an expert using raspberry Pi LINUX commands.

But I was able to use the shell to login; cd to  /boot. Used "sudo nano -w" to edit config.txt; added gpu_mem=128 at the end of the file; saved file and rebooted.

so far so good? It's currently playing the test playlist (1 hour +).  I'll let know at the end of the week if the fix worked (flight to DC today)

Any chance you can flip to the master branch and re-test?   I've changed things at "stop" time to try and let the external programs gracefully quick instead of a "kill -9".   I'm wondering if the kill -9 stuff is causing omxplayer to not cleanup stuff and thus consuming memory whereas a more graceful quit might allow it to cleanup.   Not really sure though.

Sure I'd be happy to, but I'll require directions on how to to do that.

I'm currently running 8cd7d0c app version v2.7.2 with OS version v2.7.1.

Sure I'd be happy to, but I'll require directions on how to to do that.

Go to http://{your-fpp-ip-address}/developer.php

Then select "master" from the Git Branch dropdown list.  Wait a few minutes while it recompiles - you will not see any screen activity so be patient.

To go back, you again visit the developer.php page and then pick the Version you want (probably v2.7)

Thanks I'll continue to run this test for Dan.  I'll keep you  all posted!

Current status: ~2 hours no freezes... 6:30+ would be a new record!
