Connecting 2 F16v3s with Expansion Boards
« on: June 30, 2019, 06:02:58 AM »
I can't find an answer to these questions in the manual or on the website, so I'd appreciate any help.  I'm using F16v3 with current firmware (b022) and xlights from a PC via wired ethernet.

1)  Can I connect 2 F16V3s together via wired ethernet and run 2 16-port expansion boards from each F16v3 if I limit to 512 channels?

2)  Can I connect 2 F16v3s together via wired ethernet and run 2 16-port expansion boards from one of them and 2 differentials from the other?

Thanks in advance.

Gregg

You can "daisy-chain" the F16V3s using the Eth0 and Eth1 ports.  (There is a simple switch built onto the board.)
You can add any of the available add-on cards via the ribbon connector.  (Middle of the board).

You cannot use the serial ports on one F16V3 to feed the other F16V3.

Even daisy-chained, the two F16V3s are independent.  They each have their own IP address, and they do not send control information back and forth.

Sequencers: Vixen3 and xLights
Players: FPP and xSchedule Controllers:  Renards - SS24/SS16; E1.31 - San Devices E682 - Falcon F16, F4, F48 - J1Sys - DIYLEDExpress E1.31 Bridges.  Much more!

Thank you both.  Good info.

Algerdes, I wondered how they'd be controlled...separate ip's is important for me to know.  I'm assuming they can still both be controlled from within one xlights sequence, yes?

Yes, you would set them up as 2 controllers in the setup tab and then you can assign models in the layout tab to either then sequence onto those models.

As an example of what darylc said, we use 16 controllers off of one FPP.  A little more than 1/2 of our sequences are done using xLights.  And then there are the remotes.....  ;)
