I am attempting to use a BeagleBone black with an octoscrolla to display text from a text file on an LED matrix comprised of p10 panels.

I have been able to get my display to work properly with the example scripts and plugins provided by FPP. On a separate BeagleBone controller I have been able to automatically generate the text file using the python libraries found on GitHub (https://github.com/dmroeder/pylogix).

However, I have had no luck getting both features to work on the same controller. With FPP installed, I am unable to use the installed python programs from GitHub. The first error I received is that pylogix is unable to access setuptools. Any advice on which way to proceed?

My suggestion right now would be to grab the PixelOverlay-ScrollingText.php script from the script repo and use that as a base.   Using FPP 2.7.x, the script uses the new REST interface to PUT the text on the matrix.   Thus, you CAN run the script on a different machine than the matrix is actually on.   There are a couple of the fields at the top of the script that you would need to set (host, msg, etc....), but you can also look through it to see what else would need to be done to use the REST interface.
