If I receive my order from Ray in time, I will have new Technicolor WS2811 and TM1804 pixels.  I will also have samples of Ray's spheres.

I will also have partial builds of:
  • dumb RGB pex tubes
  • greenhouse panel matrix
  • coroflakes
  • 26-spine pex starburst
  • Falcon gear

Steve -  I ordered and received WS2811 Technicolor string from Ray.  I fired it up last night on a F16 controller and it works fine.  I need to verify the RGB order is correct.  My main concern was the 2811s.  Ray shipped a pigtail with the 12v, GND, and data labeled.  I have not confirmed the connector wiring on the string is the same as the defacto standard defined on DLA.  Just a heads up.

PK,

On the technicolor the center wire is Data (standard), the wire on the side molded with the arrow is ground, and the wire on the side without the arrow is Positive.

Many of us have used the wiring in the picture.  I just wanted people to be careful and to connect the strings correctly.

This picture and wiring, was based on matching the use of red/green/blue from the old pigtails to the old smart strings.  It was NOT an attempt to survey the best practice -- just a convention that many of us had followed.

The pigtail colors have changed, and whether technicolor matches or not -- its accidental.

once I have verified for myself the TM1809 technicolor and WS2811, I will update the DLA pictures and wiki entry accordingly.

OK Steve - sounds good.

Personally I like to have all of my strings wired the same so I can use them with any SSC I have.  If I did not do this, there is good possibility I would spend time wondering why my strings don't work.

it is unfortunate there is not a standard for how +12v, ground and data would be connected on 3 pin connectors

all of mine are wired as suggested on the DLA forum.

Well, I can verify that anything ordered from Rita Lighting with the plugs molded on will follow the standards posted in the image above.  There are also 3 pin to 4 pin adapters for thsoe who prefer to run all 4 pin connectors on their pixel ccontrollers.  I believe that it's going to be as close as we get to "standards" out of China.

me too. :(

I think I will end up color-coding the different systems -- maybe with a colored wire tie at each connector.  and then creating a handful of adapters that take me from one standard to another.

if I didn't have 2 years with the old "standard" before a new "standard" emerged, life would be that much simpler.

wow... we are way off topic.  I am thinking about cutting the wires between the 3 pin connector and the first node and re-wiring the connections to agree with my controllers

sure...  but part of the reason for sharing a scheme is to make it easier to pass along (buy/sell) controllers.  the same holds true for the strings. :(

We had a good time, with about 8 in attendance.

Falcon came up prominently in the discussions, and Alan showed Falcon PI working against SanDevice controllers.

Also showed off the greenhouse panels (with dumb strings), a simple megatree design, and the porcupine ball starburst.

The SSCv4 worked well with the coroflakes and square modules in a demo.

We get back together on September 21, again in Georgetown.

btw: Alan and I were able to both attend the San Antonio get together on the 18th.  Again, Falcon we discussed a lot, and Alan this time showed of Madrix features.
