I got an asynchronous display controller (HD-C1) to power it up in the interim until the FPP and matrix software is ready for my BBB and cape.

Looking at the HD-C1 specs, it lists output resolution as 384x128 (well within your 256x48)

I'll be very interested in what you can display and how it looks. Glad to see my "steel strips and magnets" worked for you.
I'm also looking at using a "sheet" of steel and just cutting out holes. I have a friend with a plasma-cutter who could breeze through thin steel.
Thin galvanized steel is all around. used extensively for signs.

I haven't yet. Still re-organizing my storage building for room to work. :(

Plan is still to use a wood frame with slots for my first panel. I may use aluminum frame later.
The thin steel sheet I mentioned would be nice in my slotted wood design.

Thanks for the offer to deliver!! My "guy" will have some in 1-2 weeks, so after factoring tax/shipping/exchange rate it will be about the same price, and I'll save the shipping aggravation factor for when really cool things like the new cape and/or  f16-bbb (or whatever the name is) comes out. Being able to at least starting to figure out mounting of the panels and powering them is gonna keep me busy for a few weeks anyways.

Today I'll try to daisy chain two panels together and see if that works at all.
