hmmm I see that there is limit on the total length of 256 pixels. so for a 12 x 1 panel matrix I would need to use 2 outputs on the Falcon Neo board. are there limitations on how long the ribbon can be from the Neo to the first panel.

If I can mount the NEO under panel in the middle of the 6ft enclosure I could run just 3ft back to the first panel and 3ft to the next enclosure. As I don't have a NEO board yet I guess it will need some experience to see what works or not.

Good question on the length of ribbon cable. I was wondering that too.

Dave, how are the outputs from an FPGA for this usually configured?

If I did 9 panels (3x3), should I use 3 outputs?  or could I do 6 and 3 ?

and, if I could do 6 and 3, would there be a visible difference in refresh rates? or performance?

I know that the Raspberry Pi can output to a 3x1 setup, but can't do 4x1 without lag and skips. In this application, an FPGA is just more efficient.

The Captain and i are going to make it configurable to a point. It seems more straight forward to use 3 ports of three.

I have one question before making the leap of ordering. Are the panels of choice going the ones in the link below?

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/P10-Indoor-Full-Color-Advertising-media-LED-Display-Module/1461949772.html

I purchased a Falcon NEO and plan to purchase panels but I would like to make sure that a standard is in place. They are 25% off right now and any money saved is a good thing.

This is the set i'm looking to buy...

Anyone know what an epistar chip is?

gotcha...so hopefully - it's all standard stuff. I will reach out to these guys and maybe buy 2 or 3 panels, test their response time and costs ..... from there put in a bigger order if they are good.

I ordered from this company in December and service and delivery were both excellent. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/P10-Indoor-Full-Color-Advertising-media-LED-Display-Module/1461949772.html

in December I paid $14.18 per panel, now they are $12.64 per panel.
