Start reading everything, but you can start here

http://falconchristmas.com/forum/index.php/topic,200.0.html

Then also look thru the FAQ for the player in the WIKI.  Link is above the threads.

....but you didn't say if you read the FAQ that Jim was referring to? There is no requirement to download to a USB flash drive to get an FPP running. You need a USB flash drive to store the files, but you put the image on the sd/sdmicro card.

Can't find the FAQ.

I thought FFP went on the USB flash drive, and the vixen/light show went on the SD card

Click the link Jim provided above. The very first line has a link to the updated instructions, which have more detailed steps in installing v0.4.0.

The PI boots from the SD card and since FPP is a usage specific modification of the OS, it makes sense that it is placed there.  With the introduction of smart nodes and the thousands of channels that they add to the show, show files can get huge and require a lot of space.  USB flash drives offer a lot of space and bang for the buck so it really makes sense to put the show files there.

Hi,

The links above do not give a newbie (which I was/am) instructions on what to do .

I have just this week (successfully) been through this process following steps posted on the auschristmaslighting forum by AussiePhil.
This covered the manual steps required today on how to format an SD card , download and install the image , connect and download the FP software,  etc  until getting the Falcon Player page up , after which I followed a video by Alan Dahl

I am not sure what the accepted process is . Am I allowed to copy that entire post here ?
In the meantime I will ask Aussie Phil if I can.

Regards

Gerry

Hi stallionent, who is lost.

First Question is
Which Pi do you have
Pi B+
Pi B+ version 2, usually just called a Pi2

if you have the Pi2 you can follow the instructions I created and posted at ACL, you should be able to read the thread as a guest, please let me know if you can't

address on the alphapix4 set at xxx.xxx.1.50, I lost about a 2/3 of an 86 pixel, 30/10 strip
I set the address back to xxx.xxx.0.50 and all 86 pixels now work?

To clarify.  B+ is a version 1 Pi (single core processor)

Version 2 is called Pi 2 model B, or Pi 2. (4 core processor)

OK, lost fpp, used to work.  192.168.0.150 web page not responding. Downloaded windows 10, hated it went back to windows 7. Maybe that is the reason? Raspberry pi has red light only.
