Just ordered 10 of them. Here's hoping they're good quality and the spacing is at least 3".
Newbie for 2016 using FPP, F16v2r, F4v2, and WS2811 bullet pixels.

Could you take some pictures and let us know the spacing between each node?

Sure, but it'll be a few weeks before I get them. I did email David Lee (the seller) and he advised the spacing is 8-9cm.  Ten nodes on sale cost $136.78 including shipping ($0.27/node).  The non-sale price for the same ten nodes is $154 shipped ($0.31/node), which is still a decent price.

That sounds just about right on the 3" strings I received.

I am curious if anyone done a comparison of color transitions or fades between these or any other 5-bit (32 shades) string and an 8 bit (256 shades) string?  How noticeable is the transition?

This may come down to artistic and programming styles about what is acceptable.

The 5-bit will not fade thru color ranges as smoothly as the 8-bit.
The 8-bit will not fade thru color ranges as smoothing as the Minleon pixels.

But, if your show and programming does not do a lot of slow fades, then it really won't make a difference.

You will see the difference in side by side comparisons. Your "street audience" will not see the difference. So, my pocketbook and controller choices have been my guide. (WS2811, TM1804 and TM1809)  3-wire, 8-bit.

I have a feeling I just made my first n00b mistake. I glossed over the fact these are 5-bit pixels and I hope I didn't just buy an inferior product.   I also don't know what it means that "The pixels must be clocked by a micro controller".  I bought a Falcon F16v2 to drive these, but the word "clock" in there is confusing to me.

I may be wrong, but I believe its impossible for a WS2811 to run in 5-bit color mode.

In typical Chinese fashion, the description can not be trusted.  It says they are WS2811 and it says they are 5-bit.  One of those statements is wrong.  Due to the high popularity of ws2811 chips, my gut feeling is that the ws2811 statement is more believable than the 5-bit statement.

The "must be clocked by micro controller" statement just means that you need a controller - like the F16V2 - to drive them.

While it looks like this sale is over you can still get them at a good price from HolidayCoro.com's pre-sale running until Feb 14th.  A string of 50 12v is $15.89 for 3" spacing and $16.99 for 6" spacing.  That is half the price currently listed at this AliExpress site.

+1.  I would love if Jon could expound on the chip architecture.  I've not seen a chart or breakdown before.  Curious why certain people like certain chips.  BTW If you ever get some Minleon strings you will never look at the other nodes the same...  Everything about them is clearly in another league.

DIYLED Express has them a little cheaper and allows you to select the wire color (I hate multi).  Plus if you buy larger quantities it drops lower.  They just don't have the higher 6" spacing option.

This place is still a good deal, all the time, if buying in quantities equal to or greater than ~300 nodes.  If buying when a sale is on, then it's even a better deal.  In no way am trying to convince anyone to buy from this AliExpress guy.  I shop for the best price and wanted to share what I found in case other people were interested.  These are just the cold hard numbers.  Feel free to post price/node of other presales and/or suppliers available.  I generally buy in quantities of 1000 nodes, but everyone is different when in comes to purchases.  Some people would just rather buy stateside than deal with anything shipping from China.

Holiday Coro Pre-Sale

There are many people better qualified on chip architecture. Somebody like David who actually has had to support the different chipsets in the F16v2.

These are WS2811 pixels, which are 8-bit (256 dimming levels).  As pixelpuppy points out, the errors are mostly in what specs are written on the AliExpress website.  It's very hard to trust that data.
