Cheat Sheet or documentation on how the SSC Firmware works?
« on: October 18, 2013, 09:57:31 AM »
Hi,

Does anyone have any documentation or a cheetsheet on how the SSC firmware works?

I know its limited to SSC V3 (which I have a lot of) ... and doesn't work for V4.

But I love the capabilities and would love to use it in some capacity this year.

I'm especially wondering how the programming "in place" works.  I'm not sure I ever heard
the final answer on whether the V3 jumper needs to be left ON or OFF.

THanks,
Scott / taybrynn

scott; dave's firmware works for versions v1,v2,v3. i think the program jumper is off on the v3 and on for v1,v2. dave will correct.

since the progrm jumper does NOT actually do anything, you program channels ,using his program utility, differently.

once setting will set the channel of every plugged in device. so for my 16 port active hub, if i set channel 100, all 16 SSC's will be channel 100.
so what i do for the initial channel setting, i plug in cable 1 , set SSC#1 to its channel
I then unplug cable 1 and plug in second cable. Now I set SSC#2. i do this for all 16 ports. Actually, quite faster than going and changing jumpers on and off.

After all 16 are set, there is another program channel mode where you give a channel # and only the channel # will be reporgrammed. Say you wanted to change the grouping on just one SSC. Select the current channel of the SSC and only it will be programmed.

What I like is in the winter I will never have to again go up on the roof if i need to change a channel number.

Now, i will let dave correct my ramblings. I was using daves firmware last spring so it has been 6 months. I am going to be using his firware again in the next few weeks so i will check myself then.

summary
download firware, burn it on your SSC's v1,v2 or v3
Get Daves utility for setting the channel numbers and the grouping

thanks

Thanks, you guys are awesome !!   Thanks for the helpful video David.

So it's limited to using a ss hub set to pixelnet  universe #1 for now.   That's good to know.
