Event scripts are just shell scripts that do anything you want them to do.  If you had a LED display that was attached to a serial port that took simple text commands, an event script to drive that could be as simple as this:

#!/bin/bash

echo "Now Playing: Joy to the World by George Jones" > /dev/ttyS0

Or they could be more elaborate.  They can be anything that can be scripted.
