Saw the thread discussing BeagleBone Green instead of the Beaglebone Black for use with an Octoscroller in my P10 setup.  Anybody using it yet?

Looks to be essentially the same, with the most important difference being no HDMI on the Green.   I don't need a monitor to set it up, and certainly don't need it once I'm mounted in my show.

Its about $20 cheaper, and even available on amazon for fast shipping.

Here's an article and a comparison for those that have not seen the green.

I have used the BBG for P10. Using one right now. No difference for this purpose (except that I like the push buttons better - nicer tactile feel).

Agree - no HDMI needed for setup.  Load up your flash card and SSH in to configure.

Was wondering if anyone has run one, and if they experienced any comparability problems with the BBB image intended for the Falcon player.  I'm considering things like the differences between a Pi B+ and a Pi 2B and how images may not be compatible.

I tested the BBG thoroughly several months ago. It ran FPP just like the BBB. It worked with the F4B, the F16B and with the Octoscroller.

No HDMI was never a problem since I don't use it. In fact, it makes wireless dongles work better because the BBB has an HDMI port that is too close to the USB and interferes with the Edimax (I needed to use a USB extender cable on the BBB)

Thanks Jon.  That's what I was hoping to hear.

I also use a BBG with octo and P10 panels, no issues at all. Works great.

I'm testing a build now with a BBG.  From what I can tell the HDMI cape doesn't work with the FPP build.  Probably a video driver issue which I didn't think about.  If this is not the case please let me know.

FPP disables HDMI at this time because the HDMI pins conflict with pins needed to drive Octoscroller and Falcon BBB controllers.

I want to make the HDMI enable/disable automatic but it requires a reboot to change so it will still be a pain even if it is semi-automatic.  I believe HDMI also conflicts with the 5th onboard serial port so for those wanting to use four universes of DMX or PixelNet out from the BBB, they also need HDMI disabled.

I wouldn't change anything.  This was my first go around with a BB and I just didn't get it.  I plan to run cat5 and no wireless so the black really would have been the better choice for me.  And although I didn't need the monitor to do the setup, I like to see what it's doing.  Setup worked without issue.
