Pixel controller chip issue - solved
« on: December 22, 2016, 12:01:30 AM »
I was going nuts.  My pixels on my roofline were acting strange.  That is such a terrible description, I had to include a link to a video in this post to explain.

It was almost like they were not getting enough power.  I rewired.  I added null pixels.  I tried almost everything except a different section on my alphapix 16.  I was so lucky there are 4 separate pixel controller chips on that guy.  When I moved my roofline from outputs 6 and 7 to 9 and 10, instantly I saw the difference.

So my issue was not my long cable run ( from controller to first pixel is about 60 feet) it was a bad controller chip.  I have some new ones being shipped from HC, but the difference is astounding. Check out the video.  I have both versions in the one video clip.

Just thought this might help someone in the future.  I thought a bad pixel controller would just not work.  Turns out they can be bad, still sort of work, but waste hours of troubleshooting time. Live and learn.
