Unable to open webpage setup page on F16v3 board
« on: February 15, 2018, 12:16:37 PM »
The first time, I setup the configuration webpage on FPP at 192.168.0.5  and F16v3 at 192.168.0.254, the setup pages open up.  When I turn on the next day, the FPP webpage brings up okay but the F16v3 board webpage did not brings up.  Instead it brings up the FPP webpage on 192.168.0.254.   Which is weird. To fix this, I have to change the configuration on the board to new IP address then the web page for F16v3 open.  I change the eth0 on the FPP to the new IP and the test works.  Do you know why this happened?  It been happen a few time when I shut all them down at night.   Also when I set the F16v3 to 192.168.1.5, I am not be able to brings up the setup web page.

It happens again when I have both F16v3 board and FPP on.  When I shutdown the FPP Pi3, and refresh the 192.168.0.254 webpage the F16v3 screen show up.  Any reason why this happen?

A screenshot of the FPP network page and the F16v3 network page would help a LOT

Here is the screenshot:
The FPP is 192.168.0.5 and F16v3 is 192.168.0.254
I have refresh both of them.  If I shutdown the FPP the F16v3 page show up.
I try change the F16v3 to 192.168.1.254 but not working.  All subnet are 255.255.255.0

It is known that you don't want to run the same subnet on both the wLan and Eth0 sections.  Try moving one or the other to a different subnet.  (192.168.2.xxx?)

Also, don't set the gateway on both adapters.

I try put the F16v3 on 192.168.2.254 as you suggested, but my PC at 192.168.0.101 are not able to open the F16v3 browser at all.  The subnet is no change.  I want my PC to able to open the F16v3 and FPP setup pages.

How do I configure the IP for FPP and F16v3 so both can be accessible via same PC and has internet access too.  I though I get right from watching YouTube.

I think you are royally confused so let's see if I can help.  You also have 2 posts which are basically the same problem which makes it hard for people to assist.  I am no expert at networking so some of this lingo will not be correct.  Check out this as well.
http://falconchristmas.com/forum/index.php/topic,4231.0.html

You have 1 Pi and F16V3 as best I can tell based on your posts.  I am assuming that you want to plug the F16 into the RJ45 of the Pi via a network cable.  Your home wifi network appears to be 192.168.0.XXX.  Therefore, you need to make the 3rd octet not "0" (called the subnet) on the eth0 of the Pi.  So for you lets pick 1 for simplicity (192.168.1.xxx).  You will need to be able to access the Pi somehow either cat5 or wireless.  Then after you set up the static IPs you shutdown the Pi and unplug the cat5 cable because by default the Pi will try to use the eth0 if it is plugged into the router.  You then should be able to get to it by the wifi ip address below.  It is also helpful to limit the DHCP range in your router to the low numbers and/or set your static IP to something bigger than 200 so the router is less likely to steal your IP and use it for another device.
On the Pi set the following:
wlan0:
IP: 192.168.0.xxx (anything that is static and outside the range of your router)
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.xxx (routers address, so likely a 1)

eth0:
IP: 192.168.1.1
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: LEAVE BLANK

Check the box at the bottom that says enable routing between network interfaces.
After a shutdown and removal of cat5 wire you should now be able to get to the Pi over wifi.  If this doesn't work, there is no reason to try to do anything with the F16 yet.

Now that you have the Pi working and you can access over wifi, you need to set the IP of the F16.  Set your F16 controller as described in the manual starting on page 34.  For you it should look like this
IP: 192.168.1.xxx(a number not equal to the eth0 ip address, so make it anything from 2-254)
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (the eth0 IP of the Pi)
DNS: 192.168.0.1 (router IP address)

Now you have to set your router so you can type the IP of the controller into it and get to the controller page from your computer. This allows you on the 192.168.0.xxx subnet where your laptop is located to talk to the controller on the 192.168.1.xxx subnet. To do this on a computer you can type these commands.  For a Mac it is not persistent across boots so you will have to type if you restart the computer. You can also do it inside of the router by setting static routes.
Windows: route -p add 192.168.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.xxx (xxx is pi wlan0)
Mac:  sudo route add 192.168.1.0/24 192.168.0.xxx (xxx is pi wlan0)

Now you should be able to type controller IP into browser and get to the controller page.

Thanks for your details info, Emuney18.  I have not follow your instruction yet.  But I do not want to use the WI-FI on PI.  I want to connect directly to the PI using RJ45 internet.  So what setting do I need to change to accomplish this?

Do you plan to run at least 2 Pis and do a master and remotes?  Or 1 master Pi?

No, just basic 1 Pi as FPP at 192.168.0.5 and F16v3 board as standalone at 192.168.0.254 so both can be reach by my PC at 192.168.0.10.  All at subnet 255.255.255.0 and Getway at 192.168.0.0

Why do you not wish to use Wifi on the Pi.  Most of us only use it for control and configuration of the Pi.  Wifi is not reliable enough to transmit data for a show, but certainly works exceptionally well for the control and configuration part.  The ethernet port is used to send the show data to the controllers.

My PI is located corner of garage and furthest to my router and sometimes my wifi drop connection.  Is there no way to configure PI with wired RJ45 to the router and have it control the F16v3 on same router still be able to using my PC to set configuration on both.

I follow the Emuney18 instruction and set the PI eth0 to 192.168.1.254 and F16v3 to 192.168.1.254.  When I open the FPP at 192.168.0.5 and do the test display it does not works.  When I do test ping on eth0 it show no error.  And my PC cannot open the F16v3 because my PC is at 192.168.0.10.  Enable routing is checked.  What do I need to fix it to work?  I need to connect to all using Wired not wireless.

Now when I type in 192.168.1.254 where the F16v3 at it brings up Pi FPP suppose at 192.168.0.5?  For now I did unplug the PI so it use wireless per instructions above.  It brings up PI FPP at 192.168.0.5 just fine.   The ping test on eth0 okay.   I also did the route on command prompt.   The test display on FPP does not work.
