4 pin pigtales used for 3 pin??

Has anyone tried this? I have several 4 pin pigtales left over from a lot sale I bought and need a few more 3 pin just curious if this would work

Would be no problem, just cut the 4th lead stripped portion and do not wire them.  You will need to pick a color and be uniform throughout...now and in the future.    Just to be clear - 4 pin do not connect to 3 pin.

Thats what I was thinking also but I was just trying to save a few dollars ya know

And yeah I understand that assuming I connect everything correctly

Just wanted to make sure there wouldnt be any conflicts with fourth pin being there

Totally works and I also do it with 3 wire pigtails when I only need 2 wires for power injection. 

JUST MAKE SURE TO LABEL THEM CLEARLY as mixing them will cause you problems big time.   

I use shrink wrap colors over unique connectors but you could use paint or tags.   

And either way, probably still meter them when hooking things up.

I use 3 pin for my 12 volt stuff and 4 pin for my 5 volt stuff. This way i cannot cross the voltages in the field
