LED Panels Matrix Recommendations
« on: June 21, 2018, 09:09:58 PM »
I am interested in building a P5? based LED matrix for an outdoor Tune to FM sign.  I am looking for links for building an outdoor enclosure and links for where to purchase the panels.  Where is a good source to buy a few panels?  Any suggestions or pointers? Thanks!

This year, I am adding a 4W x 3H P10 matrix and a 3W x 2H P5 matrix.  Both will primarily be used for my two Tune To signs.  The P10 panels were bought from Ray Wu back in January, and the P5 panels were bought back in February from Crockett Fantasy of Light during their Pre-Sale (received two weeks ago).  So far, I am happy with both.  In both cases I am driving the panel from a ColorLight card which in turn is being driven by a Pi 3B.
In case you are wondering why the two different size and spacing of panels, it primarily relates to distance from viewers.  Viewers looking at the P10 panel will be up to 100 feet away and viewers looking at the P5 may be as close as a few feet, and almost certainly under 25 feet.  For my testing, I have both panels in my family room about 10 feet from my desk.  Text on the P10 panel looks great - text on the P5 panel blows it away.
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.
