P5 Panel Help
« on: July 11, 2018, 01:02:21 PM »
I am having an issue with my P5 panels and am looking for help. The panels are from EBay and I cannot seem to find the specs at all. I can tell you that they are 32X32, HUB75 and 5 volt. By including the picture of the back, I am hoping that someone can shed some light on whether or not it is the panels at fault or it is my setup. I can tell you that I have tried this on a Rons hat and the single output Crocketts hat and they both have the same results. I also have a P10 panel setup that is working perfectly, so I tried applying the same principals and ideals to the P5 and am having zero luck. It seems to be splitting each 32X32 panel into 16 wide by 8 panes and replicating the outputs??

These are "1:8" scan P5 panels.  Those are not supported on the Pi's.   You will need either a Beaglebone based controller or use a Colorlight/Linsn receiver card for them.

I am trying to put the latest image on my Beaglebones, but, again, I may be missing something. I downloaded the latest image (FPP-v2.0-Beta-BBB-20180709.zip 2018-07-09 16:52  714M ) but it seems like it is not taking. My BBB is still on   V1.9-75-ga7c664e. Maybe my not fully grasping how to do this, but with the disc image, do I have to hold the S2 button like the install instructions say on the falcon site?

Only for the first boot.   The first time it boots up off the SD card, it should replace the boot loader on the eMMC with a newer version that will then continue to boot off the SD card if it has a bootable image on it.     Make sure you are following the instructions at:

http://falconchristmas.com/forum/index.php/topic,7985.0.html

and not the older 1.x based instructions.

Got it. I was following the FPP install instructions where it said to use the Win32 Disk Imager and nothing about the USB connection to computer and then the advanced settings to move it to the emmc. got it though. getting closer. One question. What is the panel interleave setting for?

Getting closer.

I now have things setup like this:

My question is the arrows. Looking at the panels there are two different arrows on them:

There is also arrows on the plastic frame which match one set of the arrows on the board itself:

Here is a picture of the back of the board:

I'm still missing something. It seems that the bottom row is matching with its neighbors to each side. Not in it's proper location though. then moving up, the next row is not matching, then the next row matches perfectly not only to its neighbors, but to the bottom row as well. Strange things happenning.

Is there a particular reason you went the other direction with one row compared to the other?    For a matrix that size, I would have thought it would be easier to make all the panels go the same direction.  :)    You could mount the BBB right between the two panels on one side and just use short cables to the first panels.

Anyway, I think you have things reversed.   The arrows on the top row in the config should point up as that's what they look like in your "back" picture.  The bottom row should point down.   Then I think you also need to flip the P1 and P3's on both.   The panel layout is when looking at it from the front.  Thus, P1 for the top is the top right panel.   Is the "back" picture upside down?  In that picture, I see Output 2 feeding the top row and Output 1 feeding the bottom row.

The reason for reversing the arrows was to ty to get it off of one output on a Pi which, I see now, cannot be done. Rather then take it all apart, I prefer to confuse myself really good. Got it working now P5 SetupC is where everything landed.

Correct on the layout being backwards and upside down. Got it.
