Quite impressed
« on: July 20, 2018, 02:01:07 AM »
I really like this F48 board. I am ashamed to say, far more than I had expected.the expansion possibilities are quite awesome.
I saw a few videos on YT referencing the F48 and the F16v3. while both are built on the same platform, they are both pretty cool boards. ;D ;D ;D ;D
I wish there was a way to update the F16v2 to allow for the channels that the v3 can handle.

is there a way to have the F48 act as the display controller? in other words, store all the display elements (songs, xlights info, etc) and run the display?
I see that the f48 (and f16v3) have a audio out, what kind of adapter does one need to access this? (its stated that this audio out drives a stereo output (usually to a standard audio plug))

I think you will find that the current firmware does not support what you are wanting.  Note that Dave P. has a new version of the firmware running on an F16V3 here at Expo, complete with the audio adapter.  He states that there is still work needed, but it wont be long before it is released.
Sequencers: Vixen3 and xLights
Players: FPP and xSchedule Controllers:  Renards - SS24/SS16; E1.31 - San Devices E682 - Falcon F16, F4, F48 - J1Sys - DIYLEDExpress E1.31 Bridges.  Much more!

I'll see Dave in the morning.  I'll ask and relay what he says.

Talked with Dave today.  He does not have a list of items that are in the new release because he is still working on it.  Keep an eye in the forums, the release is not that far away.

Also, there are those that have been testing the releases for David.  Perhaps one of them can leak the info.

I resemble that remark  ;D  and the only thing I can tell you is nobody knows for sure what will be in the next firmware release until its released.  ::) Patience young Grasshopper...
xLights and Vixen3 for sequencing / FPP for scheduling and playing / Falcon controllers for pixels / homemade controllers for everything else

As far as waiting till "next year", I don't think that will be necessary - but it is your choice.

I can tell you that David had a F16V3 running as a master, complete with audio, at the Expo.  The unit was feeding several pixels directly.
Along with that, it was sending information to another set of props on the back wall of his display area.

I don't believe that he is too far from getting it out the door.

With that said, I too am prepping my different locations with a FPP in each area, running as remotes, and I have a FPP setup as master.  I'm also testing out xSchedule to see how I can use it as the master.  (Always good to have alternatives.)  When the firmware does get released, we will make the determination to either stay with the FPPs for this year, or to move it all to the F16/F48/F4s directly.

I repeat:
IT IS GREAT TO HAVE ALTERNATIVES!   ;D

I do use the FPP as well the x scheduler as master and remote.
Take so time and play with the scheduler you will be impress to what the xlights developer has done.

Just spent two days in advanced xLights classes with Keith (which included the xScheduler information), as well as the three days at the Expo sitting in on several sessions.

"Impressed" is somewhat of an understatement.

 :)
