Owners / Set-Up Manual V1.5 for the SC V1 (Revised 8/18/2014)
« on: August 06, 2014, 06:18:35 PM »

Critical Notes (detailed in the manual):

- Note LED alignment and special instructions for locating specific colors in certain locations

- Be sure input/output wire insulation extends at least to the white outline of the solder pad (preferably slightly beyond) to prevent short circuits to other board components.

- Trim leads of 6 socket ICSP and use special soldering technique to insure no sharp edges / sharp solder points which could chafe input wires.

- Boards were sent pre-flashed with firmware, but you will need to program your own channel numbers with Falcon Smart String Grouping V 1.0.11 or later

- If using 5V Nodes, be sure SC input is also 5V and/or you have taken other steps to inject 5V power compatible with the nodes.

Currently, the manual contains the following sections:

Contents (in recommended order of completion)

1.   Typical Application

Becoming Familiar with SC Layout and Features

2.    Adding Optional Components

Items and Tools Required for Assembly
      Indicator LEDs
      Magnetic Reed Switch
      6 Socket ICSP Header

Configure the PICKit programmer for use with MPLAB
Configure MPLAB X IDE for use with PIC24F08KL200
Load Hex file to MPLAB IDE
Flash PIC Chip and confirm results

4.    Detaching Boards from the Array

5.    Attaching Input / Output Leads

      Front / Back Silkscreen Markings
      Wire attachment process

6.    Programming Channel Numbers

7.   Test Mode

Probably the best assembly manual for any product that I have seen.  Great job Corey.  Of course all my boards are fully assembled so all I have to do is add the connectors.  And finish building my props - LOL.

Great Manual!  I'm still missing one part in my head. I understand the output and power in but the data 1 data 2 input has me confused. I don't think I connect it to a E681 or Renard 24 SS or directly to my PC's Ethernet port. So exactly what do I connect it with or what options do I have?

This would typically be the last link in a chain where you have your computer talking to a dongle (either a USB or ethernet), the dongle sending data to a hub (such as Falcon F16 or DLA), the hub then distributes data 1 / 2 and power out to the SC, finally, the SC sends that data out to the nodes.

As time progresses, there have become even more options for dongles and hubs.  For a complete list, I'd even have to refer to some of the experts there.

The uSC is a Pixelnet input device, just like its bigger, older brother, the DLA SSC v1, v2, v3 or v4.

The Data 1 and Data 2 are "RS485" data using Pixelnet (still hoping for a firmware flash that could accept DMX!!).  I know that the manual shows CAT5 cable but it is not an Ethernet input. It uses 2 wires for data (Orange and Orange/White) and then 3 wires for +vdc and 3 wires for ground.
