Beaglebone with five panels P5 32x32 FPP settings?
« on: October 26, 2018, 08:36:10 AM »
Hi,

I have a led matrix that is made of five panels of P5 32x32, so my led matrix size is 160x32. I installed FPP on my beaglebone and connected the led matrix with octoscroller. I am able to get the led panels working, but all the panels show the same thing at the same time. What settings do I need to change to make my panels act as one big led matix?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

When you first create the layout in "LED Panels" it puts everything as Output 1, Panel 1.  That duplicates everything across all 5 panels.

If you have everything on Output #1 (not a great choice) it would be O1P1, O1P2, O1P3, O1P4, O1P5
Better setup for refresh rate would be  O1P1, O2P1, O3P1, O4P1, O5P1

How do your ribbon cables connect?

I got it working by configuring O1P1, O1P2, O1P3, O1P4, O1P5, but as you mentioned refresh rate is slow.
For O1P1, O2P1, O3P1, O4P1, O5P1, won't I have to connect ribbon cable from all the panels to octoscroller?

Right now all my panels are daisy chained and only one ribbon cable is going to the octoscroller.

What can I do to make refresh rate better without connecting all of them on the octoscroller?

Shorter chains using multiple outputs will ALWAYS have better refresh rates.  Yes, that does mean more/longer ribbon cables.   That said, you could try putting the bbb/octo in the middle with 3 going one way and 2 the other.   That would at least use two outputs.
