So I've added dataplicity to my pi, so I can do some Zettle integration, however no matter what I set, I can't seem to lock down and add a uni password. Never get asked for anything? Looking at the setting file, password=1 and I can see the password. Thoughts welcome?

darylc

Correct, access to fpp from within the pi it is running on never requires a password.  This is so that fpp works properly.

Dataplicity acts like you are local inside the pi, so you won't get asked for a password.

Mat-Moo

Wouldn't that mean that anyone who got the url could access it then? Seems a bit of a security hole?

Sawdust

Set operating system password is on "Statue/Control - Settings - System"

Mat-Moo

OS password is set to default - I guess you mean "Status/Control -> FPP Settings -> System -> OS password"? I tried changing to Custom, still doesn't ask for a password - so anyone who gets that link will have access

Sure, thats why I'd never install dataplicity on an FPP appliance. FPP is 100% designed take over your pi and be the only thing running on your PI, along with its plugins.  It's not intended that you install random software.

Ok, you're obviously angry that I want 3rd party outside access, I'm sorry, but that's life. So what options do I have - looks like apace running, so htaccess and a password?

No, I don't think that Daryl is angry that you want 3rd Party access, he explained why you don't need a password when using Dataplicity. Using any 3rd Party remote access exposes your device to security holes, but that is life.
If to err is human, I am more human than most people.

darylc

I'm happy for you to access you fpp remotely, just wanting to point out how fpp is designed and intended to be run.

I've heard of people using vpn's to their home router, teamviewer to their pc, ssh tunnels, all sorts of things.
