If I connect the USB dongle into the pi, will the pi recognize it or will I have to configure pi to recognize it?  The dmx dongle works well with the PC, just trying to see what I need to do before tonight.

Or is there a setting in falcon pi player for the dongle?

On the FPP Channel Outputs page, you will need to go to the 'Other' tab and add a 'DMX Pro' channel output with the proper start channel and channel count.  You'll probably need to select 'ttyUSB0' as the device unless you have more than one dongle plugged in.

I will try that

I tried the "other" tab with dmx pro and dmx open and still nothing.  The controllers are seeing the dmx signal.  What else can I try?

You need to determine what type of controller it is.  Is it an open or a Pro.  They require different data streams and are not compatible with each other.  After that, you need to determine what pins are being used for its output and what pins your controller is using for its inputs.  There should be a data +, a data -, and a ground.  Not everything uses the ground but all require the data + and data - and they must be connected properly.  If you reverse the polarity or only connect one of the data lines, it should not harm the device but it will not work either.  I would avoid connecting one of the data lines to ground because that could damage the dongle.

Got it to go, thanks for your help.

I had to select dmx pro and USB for the type.  This worked really well for my Actidongle

I was trying to figure this out and doing what you mentioned did the trick. Thank you!

Nice that it still worked but did you notice that you are replying a post that is 5 yrs old.

I took it as a positive that 5 years later, the information was still available, relevant, and helpful. :)

I agree, but did not need a reply which then brings the old post to the top. I have not even seen TBone on the forums in a long time.

I just wanted to show appreciation for the help. Sorry if I offended or did something I wasn't supposed too!
