Title: F16v2 vs F16v4 (differences?)
Post by: Kyle007 on January 12, 2022, 08:58:33 AM
I was wondering what the differences/ upgrades are between the f16v2 and the newest f16v4. If you had the v2 would it be worth the investment to get the v4?

You can look at the specification sheet to see the specs of the controllers

You have to decide if there is a feature on the V4 that you do not have on the V2 that is worth the investment.

I have 5 V2sin various vintages.  Even the original v2b works fine for me, but I do not use expansion card/boards, I do not use more than 240 nodes on any port and in general I do not stress my controllers to anywhere near the maximum possible configs.  As K-State Fan states, you have to decide if any of the new features are things you need or desire.

I'm with Jim - Still using a V2blue (roof snowflakes and perimeter) and a V2red with 16 channel expansion for a 20 channel megatree. They won't get replaced unless they fail. For what they do, the V4 has no benefit.

I have a F16V3 in the yard with a single Diff Expansion board. It literally runs the entire yard. Of the possible 32 outputs, it is using 31 of them. Updated to v2.59, it accepts the DDP from the RasPi4 driving it and all other controllers.

but, unlike Jim, I don't use any Wireless and only have one Remote (a very large P5 panel). That RasPi4 is outputting to a 16port switch and everything, including that single Remote) is CAT5 wired to it.
