I thought I saw a post either here or on FB a while back about there being a way of either running FPP on Windows or having a virtual FPP on Windows. I didn't know what to search for as a search for windows threw up lots of results.I'm hoping that there is something there as I am looking for something like that so I can do some screenshots for user manuals and possibly videos and it would also make it easier for me when I have someone ask me "how do I do ......" as I often haven't got a FPP install running and more often than not I am a number of builds behind what's current.

I don't think you can setup FPP directly in Windows. You can create a Linux virtual machine in windows and install FPP on that.

If you create a virtual machine with Debian Stretch on it, you can run the FPP install script manually to get FPP installed on it. See instructions here: https://github.com/FalconChristmas/fpp/blob/master/SD/FPP_Install.sh

I have installed Linux on a laptop and ran the install script to get FPP on a laptop. It worked fine.

Here is another thread that discusses the same thing: https://falconchristmas.com/forum/index.php/topic,9055.0.html

At one point I started trying to create a Docker image for for it.   Never got too far with it though.  :(

It was a video that Dan did and posted on the Xlights FB page that had me thinking that there was a virtual FPP. I hadn't watched the video but as I read what he posted and saw the image I jumped to the conclusion that it was a virtual FPP. It was actually Xlights with FPP in another window over the top.
